Farming Equipment & Technology Fund (FETF) 2026 – Guidance Released, Applications Open 17 March

The Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) 2026 guidance is now available, and grant applications for 2026 are set to open soon. If you’re farming in England and looking to invest in productivity-boosting equipment, this is a timely opportunity to access funding support towards the cost of new machines that help reduce costs, improve efficiency and support long-term sustainability.

Applications open: 17 March 2026

Applications close: 28 April 2026 (midday)

Grant values: £1,000 – £25,000 per theme

You can apply for funding across multiple themes, including productivity, slurry management, and animal health & welfare, with separate applications per theme.

SUMO Machinery Eligible for FETF 2026 (Productivity Theme)

The productivity grant supports equipment and technology that make farms more efficient and profitable. While there are dozens of eligible items on the official list, including guidance systems, weed wipers and rainwater harvesting – several key Sumo machines align with the fund’s goals and specifications.

DD – Direct Drill – FETF44

A precision drilling solution designed to establish crops directly into residue and cover crops. Direct drills are a core productivity item on the eligible list, helping reduce passes, conserve soil moisture and cut establishment costs. Typical grant contribution: up to 50 % of purchase cost (subject to item specification).

Crimper (Green Crop Crimper)FETF414

Cover crop crimpers and rollers are increasingly used in conservation and low-tillage systems. While not always a standalone line item, crimping tools that meet the required specifications help prepare residue for drilling and support soil health outcomes when paired with direct drill applications.

Strake – Straw Rake / Residue Management Tool FETF208

Used to manage crop residues ahead of drilling or cultivation, the Sumo Strake can support improved drill performance and crop establishment by creating a more even seedbed. Because residue management tools help improve drilling efficiency, they can support a strong productivity application when included alongside core eligible items.

Stock Seeder – FETF207 (400L tank)

A compact, accurate pneumatic seeder ideal for establishing pasture, cover crops or supplementary forage. Like drills, seeders that meet the eligibility criteria may contribute toward higher productivity scores in applications where cover crops form part of the cropping system.

Inter-Row Weeder 3m – FETF6

Mechanical weed control that operates between crop rows, supporting reduced herbicide use and improved crop competition. Where eligible, inter-row weeders strengthen applications focused on input reduction, precision farming, and sustainable crop production.

Grassland Subsoiler – FETF112

Designed to alleviate compaction and improve root development in grassland systems, a grassland subsoiler enhances drainage, nutrient uptake and overall sward performance — contributing to higher productivity per hectare.

Grassland Aerator – FETF411

Aeration equipment helps relieve surface compaction, encourages root growth, and improves water infiltration. It supports forage yield, soil health, and grazing efficiency, complementing other productivity-focused investments in an FETF application.

Why This Matters for Your Farm

Investing in equipment that qualifies for FETF 2026 can:

  • Reduce cost per hectare — by cutting labour, fuel and passes.
  • Improve soil health — through reduced tillage and better residue management.
  • Support precision establishment — with tools optimised for cover crops and direct drilling.
  • Strengthen productivity scores — in grant applications that link tools to measurable outcomes.

Starting your application planning now, well before the 17 March opening gives you time to choose machines that meet the grant specifications and maximise funding support.

Preparing to Apply

Before submitting your application:

✔ Check machine eligibility – make sure the specific models you’re planning to buy meet the current FETF specifications listed in the official guidance.

✔ Gather model and serial numbers – required on application and for claiming.

✔ Work out the benefit case – explain how the machine will improve productivity, cut costs or support sustainability.

✔ Plan early – the application period is limited and competitive.

The full guidance, including eligible item lists and how applications are assessed, is available now so you can start preparing your submission.
