From Yorkshire to Japan: Sumo DTS3 Supporting a New Dealer Network
In October last year, a Sumo DTS3 left our factory in Yorkshire and began its journey to Japan, marking an exciting milestone as it was delivered to one of our newest international distribution partners.
While the DTS3 is already a well-established part of the Sumo product range, this was one of the first machines supplied to support our new dealer network in Japan, helping introduce Sumo’s direct drilling technology to a new market.
Since arriving in Japan, the machine has already demonstrated the versatility and adaptability that the DTS3 is renowned for. Working closely with the customer, our Japanese distributor integrated an APV pneumatic seeder onto the machine, creating an efficient one-pass establishment system tailored to local farming requirements.
Supporting a New Market
As Sumo continues to expand its global dealer network, it’s rewarding to see our machinery being adapted to meet the needs of different farming systems around the world.
The DTS3 has quickly proven its versatility in Japan, where reducing field passes, protecting soil structure and improving operational efficiency are key priorities. The machine has been modified to suit the customer’s requirements while retaining the low-disturbance drilling performance and build quality that Sumo is known for.
A Bespoke One-Pass Solution
The customer wanted to establish grain maize while applying an additional product during the same operation. To achieve this, an APV pneumatic seeder was securely mounted onto the upper frame of the DTS3.
Careful consideration was given to weight distribution, machine balance and accurate calibration, ensuring the additional equipment worked seamlessly with the drill. Following successful field testing, the machine entered commercial operation and is already delivering excellent results in the field.
Confidence from the First Field
One of the most encouraging pieces of feedback came from our Japanese distributor after the machine’s first day in operation:
“Our customer with the DTS3 had such an easy time operating the machine that when I came to assist with his first field, he was already done.”
Despite the DTS3 being a completely new machine for both the customer and our new Japanese dealer network, it proved intuitive to operate from the outset. It’s a testament to the machine’s straightforward design and ease of use, allowing operators to get to work with confidence from day one.

Seeing a machine leave our factory in Yorkshire and go on to support a new Sumo dealer in Japan is something we’re incredibly proud of.
As our international dealer network continues to grow, it’s fantastic to see established Sumo products like the DTS3 helping farmers across the world adopt efficient, low-disturbance cultivation and drilling practices.
