Grants Now Live: Wales Small Grants Scheme – Efficiency (2026)
Welsh farmers can now apply for funding through the Wales – Small Grants Scheme (Efficiency), with applications officially open from 12th January 2026 until 27th February 2026.
This scheme is designed to support investment in equipment that improves on-farm efficiency, productivity and long-term sustainability, making it a great opportunity for farmers looking to upgrade machinery and future-proof their operations.
Sumo Machinery Eligible for the Scheme
A selection of Sumo cultivation and drilling equipment is eligible under the 2026 Efficiency grant, giving Welsh farmers access to proven machines that deliver reliable performance across a wide range of soil types and systems.
Eligible Sumo machines include:
- GLS (Grassland Subsoiler) – Designed to relieve subsoil compaction in permanent grassland, improving drainage, soil aeration and root development while maintaining a productive, resilient sward.
- Stock Seeder – A compact, accurate pneumatic applicator for small seeds and granular products, ideal for establishing or rejuvenating pasture, applying cover crops, or OSR seeding, offering a simple and cost-effective way to improve efficiency and maximise crop establishment.
- Trio – Our iconic versatile combination cultivator that works the full soil profile in a single pass, reducing input costs, improving soil structure and delivering an efficient alternative to ploughing, with the option of one-pass drilling when fitted with seeder and SDO accessories.
- Quatro – A high-output deep cultivation machine designed to restructure, mix and level the soil in a single pass, delivering excellent residue incorporation and a full soil reset while supporting improved soil structure and efficient field performance.
- LDS (Low Disturbance Subsoiler) – Designed for precision deep loosening with minimal surface disturbance, the Sumo LDS relieves compaction while preserving soil structure and residues, supporting improved drainage, root development and regenerative farming practices.
- Direct Drill – A low-disturbance drilling solution designed to establish crops directly into residue, helping reduce erosion, conserve soil moisture, improve drilling timeliness and lower establishment costs by minimising cultivation passes.
These machines are widely used across Wales to help reduce passes, manage soil compaction, improve establishment and lower overall running costs – all key objectives of the Efficiency scheme.
Supporting Efficient, Sustainable Farming
Investing in the right machinery can play a major role in:
- Reducing fuel usage and labour requirements
- Improving soil structure and drainage
- Enhancing crop establishment and consistency
- Supporting reduced tillage and regenerative practices
With grant support available, the 2026 scheme offers a timely opportunity to invest in equipment that delivers both short-term efficiency gains and long-term agronomic benefits.
