Sumo Deep Tillage Machinery

Deep Tillage with Sumo: Dig Deeper, Farm Smarter

At Sumo, we understand that successful farming starts beneath the surface. Our Deep Tillage machinery is engineered to revitalise compacted soils, improve drainage, and create optimal conditions for strong root development – unlocking your soil's true potential season after season.

What Is Deep Tillage?

Deep tillage is the process of loosening and aerating the soil below the normal working depth, breaking through compaction layers that restrict root growth, water movement, and biological activity. It's a vital operation for restoring structure in heavily trafficked or weather-affected fields.

Agronomy Tips for Effective Deep Tillage -:

  1. Time it right
Carry out deep tillage in dry, settled conditions to ensure effective soil lift.
  2. Know your layers
Dig test holes to identify the depth and severity of compaction so you can set the machines working depth correctly – saving fuel and reducing impact on wearing metal.
  3. Avoid over-working
One well-timed pass is usually enough — over-working the soil can damage structure and waste fuel.
  4. Combine with cover crops
Follow deep tillage with cover crops to stabilise the soil, build organic matter, and support soil biology.
  5. Monitor progress and control compaction
Regularly check soil condition and use controlled traffic farming to prevent re-compaction and protect long-term soil health.
